Lisa Lewis,
Assistant Administrator

s assistant administrator, Lisa Lewis wears many hats. Her primary duties include administering the Employee Benefits Program and Service Award Program. She is also chair of the Foundation's Human Resources Committee (HRC), which is responsible for making recommendations to management about employee relations policies and activities. In this capacity, Lewis coordinates reviews of TCWF's human resources policies and procedures and oversees various employee events. She said one of the most notable events presented by the HRC was an interactive team activity that allowed employees to test their knowledge about the Foundation.

photo by Scott Streble"It was great to see employees having so much fun working together to accomplish a task. It also allowed new employees to better acclimate themselves and learn more about the roles and responsibilities of other employees at the Foundation," Lewis said.

Lewis' interest in human resources began when she was at a crossroads in deciding what emphasis of business administration she would study at California State University, Northridge (CSUN).

"I was a business major and couldn't decide what area I wanted to focus on, because business is so broad," Lewis said. "It was by a fluke that I chose to take a human resources class as an elective. I ended up loving the class and made my emphasis human resources management."

After graduating from CSUN, Lewis began her career at Kerr Glass Manufacturing in Los Angeles, where she worked for seven years as a personnel assistant. In that position, she was responsible for maintaining the employee and retiree benefit plans and assisted in managing the company's employee relations program. Lewis joined TCWF in 1996, where she facilitates a well-received employee relations program by making herself accessible to co-workers and creating a comfortable environment for employees to discuss personal and work-related concerns.

"I feel it's important for employees to be happy in their work environment, so I make it a point to walk around and boost employee morale. I encourage staff to take breaks from stressful workloads and to walk on their lunch hours. If I sense that an employee is feeling down, I say something to make them smile or laugh," Lewis said.

In her spare time, the Los Angeles native is busy coordinating community activities and volunteering child care services at her church's nursery. She is also a board member of Professionals In Human Resources Association (PIHRA), and a member of the National Human Resources Association (NHRA). PIHRA assists college students who are pursuing careers in human resources by securing internships, building leadership skills and providing human resources workshops with professional guest speakers. Lewis also enjoys her personal time, in which she often settles down with a good book, takes a shopping spree or spends quality time with her husband.

"I love working at the Foundation. It's a great atmosphere, and it feels so good to work at a place where its main focus and concern is to better the community," she said.
